Iszolocope
www.iszoloscope.net/
Iszoloscope is an industrial band from Aylmer, Quebec, currently based in Montreal. Iszoloscope's music ranges from harsh, rhythmic noise to ambient soundscapes. The band has performed at Germany's Maschinenfest festival and released several albums and EPs on the Ant-Zen record label.
...
Iszoloscope was created in 1999, when Yann Faussurier and François Bénard met while working at a radio station as DJs. Bénard left the radio field just before the release of their first record, Coagulating Wreckage, and Faussurier has continued the project. In 2007 Faussurier was joined by Guillaume Nadon for live performances as well as the anticipated new Iszoloscope album. They have been working together ever since.

Ad*Ver*Sary
www.ad-ver-sary.com/
Ad·ver·sary is an industrial project fronted by Jairus Khan, hailing from Ottawa, Canada. Ad·ver·sary has joined several acts on tours of the United States and Canada, including Iszoloscope, Terrorfakt, Antigen Shift, DJ leslie, and Adam X. His remix work includes material from Iszoloscope, Converter, Cyanotic and Urusai.

In 2008, Ad·ver·sary signed to the Tympanik Audio label to release his debut album Bone Music, which was also made available as a free download under Creative Commons licensing. The critically-acclaimed album was mastered by Yann Faussurier of Iszoloscope, containing remixes by Antigen Shift, Tonikom, and Synapscape.

Khan's sister is the Juno nominated artist Eternia.

The Table
http://www.outputnoise.com/thetable/
The Table is an ambient/electronic trio consisting of Craig Marlowe and Chris Hine (both of Rochester) and Jeremy Dziedzic (Syracuse). Live, the trio performs an intelligently crafted mix of improvised atmospheres drawn from electronic and electro-acoustic instrumentation. An open platform leaves the members free to explore a number of directions during a given set with the only imposed limitation being that the players chosen instruments must all fit on, and be played on, a single table. Using only an available table the trio must not only utilize the space effectively but, in most cases, creatively.

This weekend's Saturday Vertex theme: Military/Rivithead [01 Feb 2010|06:18pm]

avoidxcesses
This one's pretty self explanatory.
Wear camo or military inspired accessories.
Wear military style jackets, skirts, medals, badges, hats.

The dress style of rivetheads is inspired by military aesthetics, complemented by modern primitive body modification (tattoos, piercings and scarification) or borrowed visual cues from goths (fetishism, morbid-themed jewelry and imagery, and black hair dye), as well as punk fashion elements such as the fanned Mohawk hairstyle. Below are some of the main characteristics of the rivethead dress style.

Accessories:
Footwear: Combat boots, tanker boots, Jungle boots, knee-high military dress boots, steel-toe boots (such as Dr. Martens), Transmuters (or other platform boots), Gripfasts or Grinders.

Pants: Cargo pants or Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) pants; often but not always black or urban camo, usually tucked into boots, rolled at the bottom cuffs or as cut-off shorts. Also, leather pants and 'bondage pants'.
Tops: Industrial Band T-shirts, black wifebeaters, flight jackets, leather jackets, bulletproof vests and trenchcoats.

Hair: Shaved bald, partially shaved (undercut), crewcut, Mohawk, Bihawk, Trihawk or deadhawk. Sometimes long hair à la 1990s Trent Reznor.

Headgear and facegear: Sometimes masks, such as respirators or gasmasks; helmets (usually in band promo shots rather than as streetwear) and welding or flight/military-style goggles

Additional Accessories: Leather gloves (sometimes fingerless); Wool or cotton fingerless gloves; BDU-style belts; spiked or studded belts; spiked or studded chokers/collars; dog tags; jewelry that incorporates industrial elements such as nails, screws, cogs, gears, computer parts or other hardware.

Body Mods: piercings, tattoos, etc.

Female Rivets: May dress along with the femme fatale look: sexuality as power. Common are short skirts, military wear, knee-high stiletto heel boots, vinyl, leather or PVC bustiers and corsets, and lip gloss with less makeup than Goths. Often long dyed black(sometimes red or purple for example) hair that is long, short, spiked, shaved bald, partially shaved (undercut), Bettie Paige bangs, or other. Colorful synthetic pony falls or hair extensions and colorful vinyl are seen, but are more known as Cybergoth wear.

Go nuts-have fun!

Whose up for a Lolita themed Saturday at Vertex this weekend? [12 Jan 2010|04:01pm]

avoidxcesses
Whose up for a Lolita themed Saturday at Vertex this weekend?
I thought it might be neat to try and maybe come up with a fun theme each week to dress up for :)
It's not necessary to participate, but I thought it might just be a fun idea.

This weekend is Gothic Lolita. (or just plain lolita, if you'd like!)

What's lolita you say?

Lolita fashion is a fashion subculture originating in Japan that is primarily influenced by Victorian clothing as well as costumes from the Rococo period. Lolita has made this into a unique fashion by adding gothic and original design elements to the look. From this, Lolita fashion has evolved into several different sub styles and has created a devoted subculture in Japan. The Lolita look (for females) consists primarily of a knee length skirt or dress, head-dress, blouse, petticoat, knee high socks or stockings and rocking horse or high heel/platform shoes. Gothic Lolita (known in Japan as gosurori, "goth-loli") is a mixture of the Gothic and Lolita fashion. The outfits themselves usually use dark color schemes like black, dark blues and purples; often with accents of white. As with western gothic subculture, cross jewelry and other religious symbols are also used to accessorize the gothic Lolita look. Other accessories, like bags and purses, are often in uncommon shapes like bats, coffins, and crucifixes.

Wed. Retro Darkwave night at Vertex [07 Jan 2010|10:33am]

avoidxcesses
DJ Darkwave will be starting a new monthly event at Vertex.

Ever miss the old days at Vertex or are you too young to have been a part of the club years ago??

He's bringing it back!

The idea is to present a night much like you would have experienced 10 years ago at Vertex, not just another 80's or goth night but a full on re-creation of the music you would have heard when Vertex first became a staple of the Rochester alternative scene, even taking you back to the days in the old building.

Although a lot of this music still gets played DJ Darkwave is hoping to present it a setting more authentic to when it first became popular.

You'll hear tracks from Sisters of Mercy, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Peter Murphy, Echo and the Bunnymen, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Concrete Blonde, Bel Canto, Dead Can Dance, Switchblade Symphony, Delirium, The Last Dance, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Nitzer Ebb, plus lots more popular and obscure bands. Think of it as a "back to the roots" night.

Doors are at 10PM, admission is $3 (I think for all but not absolutely sure).

This will be happening on the first Wed. of the month from now on!
